About the event

Join Gold Coast Centre Against Sexual Violence for an innovative specialised two-day training program “Recognising and Responding to Elder Sexual Abuse”.

With an ageing population and an aged care system that most would rather avoid, we must acknowledge the hidden and serious nature of Elder Sexual Abuse (ELSA) to address gaps in service delivery and care.

The goal of this training is to increase workers’ knowledge, skills, confidence and capacity in recognising ELSA and those most at risk, as well as to provide trauma informed safe interventions to victim/survivors of ELSA.

  • definitions of Elder Abuse and Sexual Violence
  • vulnerabilities and realities
  • legislation and human rights
  • responding to disclosures
  • identifying and managing risks

This training is suitable for anyone who enages with older people in the course of their work including police, court workers, aged care service providers, domestic and family violence workers, sexual assault workers, solicitors, social workers, psychologists, refuge workers, generalist counsellors, and phone respondents.

Gold Coast Centre Against Sexual Violence is on Yugambeh country. In the spirit of respect and humanity, we recognise the Aboriginal peoples of Australia as the traditional owners and custodians of these lands and waters. We pay our respect to them, their cultures and their elders past, present and emerging. We recognise the strength and resilience of First Nations Peoples in fighting for their cultures, communities, and lands.
