35 Years of Impact

In 1988, the Sexual Assault Sub-Committee of the Gold Coast Interagency was established to advocate for a local Sexual Assault Service. This lead to government funding of $40,000 from the Department’s of Family Services and Health, thanks to key contributors like Donna Matulis, Chris-Maree Sultman, James MacGregor, Lesley Healy, and Lois Levy. In 1990, The Sexual Assault Support Service opened it's doors, operating out of 3 small rooms in The Cottage at Gold Coast Hospital.

For 35 years, Gold Coast Centre Against Sexual Violence has walked alongside women and young people on the Coast with dignity, respect, and unwavering belief. Since opening our doors, we have provided trauma-informed counselling, advocacy, crisis support, community education and systems change work to create a safer and more just future. Our history is shaped by the courage of survivors, the dedication of staff and volunteers, and the strength of community partnerships. While much has changed across three decades, our purpose remains the same: to believe, support, and stand with those affected by sexual violence, and to work together toward a community free from violence.​
